Yadollah Javani, as the political deputy of the IRGC, has played a role in defending and justifying the repression, detention and torture of participants in peaceful protests against the results of 2009 presidential election, and the house arrest of Mehdi Karroubi, Mir Hossein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard . On 10 June, 2009, two days before the 10th election, he accused Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's opponents of trying to carry out a "velvet revolution" and threatened to suppress them. The suppression of the 2009 protests resulted in the deaths of at least 70 people, the wounding of thousands, and the deaths of several detainees as a result of torture.

Yadollah Javani, as an advisor to the representative of the Supreme Leader in the IRGC, has defended the violent repression of the protests in January 2018 by the IRGC, which resulted in the death of at least 25 people. The January 2018 protests were nationwide protests against inflation and corruption, which began on 27 December, 2017 in Mashhad and several cities in the Khorasan Province, and quickly spread throughout Iran, with harsher anti-government slogans.

Yadollah Javani, as an advisor to the representative of the Supreme Leader in the IRGC, has defended the deadly suppression of the November 2019 nationwide protests by IRGC forces.
The November 2019 protests were a series of large-scale popular anti-government demonstrations, which began on 15 November, 2019 in protest of the tripling of petrol prices, and spread to 29 provinces in more than 100 cities across the country. At least 304 people including children were killed by the security forces.
