Haji Reza Shakarami, as Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor in the city of Karaj and a member of the city security council, participated in issuing an order to use deadly weapons against unarmed protesters in the nationwide protests in January 2018 that resulted in the death of at least one protester, Hassan (Shahin) Tarkashvand. . He has also been directly responsible for widespread detentions following the protests.
The nationwide protests of December 2017-January 2018, known as the protests of December 2017, were widespread demonstrations in protest of inflation and corruption, which began on 28 Dec 2017 in Mashhad and several cities in Khorasan province and quickly spread throughout Iran, including harsher anti-government slogans. The crackdown on protesters led to the deaths of at least 25 protesters and detainees.

Haji Reza Shakermi, as the Karaj Public Prosecutor and Revolutionary Council and a member of the city security council, participated in the issuance of orders to use deadly weapons against unarmed protesters in the November 2019 nationwide protests that killed at least 17 protesters. He has also been directly responsible for widespread detentions following the protests.
The nationwide protests of 2019, known as the protests of November 2019, were a series of large-scale popular demonstrations against the Iranian government, which began on November 15, 2019 in protest of the tripling of gasoline prices and quickly turned into anti-government protests that spread to 29 provinces in more than 100 cities across the country. The protests were brutally suppressed by the security and military forces. According to Reuters at least 1500 protesters were killed. Amnesty International, revealed the identity of 304 protesters killed by the security forces including at least 23 children.
