The nationwide protests of 2017-2018, known as the protests of December 2017, were widespread demonstrations in protest of inflation and corruption, which began on 28 Dec 2017 in Mashhad and several cities in Khorasan province and quickly spread throughout Iran, including harsher anti-government slogans. .The crackdown on protesters led to the deaths of at least 25 protesters and detainees.

As a police commander of Greater Tehran he is responsible for ordering and supervising the crackdown of protests in 15-21 November 2019, leading to death and severe injuries of several protesters.
The national protests of 2019, known as the protests of November 2019, were a series of large-scale popular demonstrations against the Iranian government, which began on November 15, 2019 in protest of the tripling of gasoline prices and quickly turned into anti-government protests that spread to 29 provinces in more than 100 cities across the country. At least 304 people were killed in the protests, according to Amnesty International.

He is also accountable for the lack of transparent and effective investigations and the identification of the perpetrators.
The 2022-23 protests began following the death of Mahsa (Gina) Amini on September 13, 2022, in the detention of the morality police of the Islamic Republic. These protests quickly spread across the country and are remembered as the largest revolutionary uprising against the government since the establishment of the Islamic Republic. The Iranian government responded to these protests with deadly violence.
According to human rights organizations, the security forces of the Islamic Republic have killed at least 551 people, with a minimum of 68 of them being children.

- Description
- Hossein Rahimi, as the police commander of Greater Tehran, was responsible for arresting and suppressing Gonabadi dervishes in the protests known as the 7th Golestan. The event known as the 7th Golestan event was a series of protests that took place in Tehran in February and March 2018. On February 18th and 19th of that year, several Gonabadi dervishes gathered in protest against the arrest of dervishes and the siege of the house of Noor Ali Tabandeh, a Sufi elder, in Pasdaran's 7th Golestan Street. The rally turned violent with the attack of the police and security forces; Dervishes were severely beaten, and about 300 of them were arrested.

According to this statement, his assets in the US will be seized, and he will be prevented from entering the United States. Additionally, financial transactions with this individual by American citizens are prohibited.
On October 31, 2022, the Canadian government sanctioned Hossein Rahimi for gross and systematic human rights violations. According to the statement from the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rahimi's assets in Canada will be frozen, and he will be denied entry to Canada.
