As a judge of the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj, Babaei issued 10 years prison sentence for Ehsan Fattahian, a Kurdish political activist, and failed to investigate reports of torture and ill-treatment of Fattahian in detention. In Jan 2009, the prison sentence was changed into the death sentence by the court of appeal and in clear breach of Iranian laws. Fattahian was executed on 11 November 2009

As a judge of the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj, Babaei sentenced Kurdish political activist, Lotfatullah Lotfallahpour, to 16 years in prison, for his peaceful political activities. Babaei also ignored the reports of his torture in detention.

As a judge at the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj, Babaei sentenced Safia Sadeghi, a Kurdish political activist, to 15 years in prison for her peaceful political activities on 19 June, 2012. He also denied her of her right to access to a lawyer, and disregarded the reports of her torture in detention.
