- Description
- As the representative of Isfahan Prosecutor’s office, Ali Zare Nouri is responsible for issuing state-sanctioned death sentences against three protestors: Saleh Mirhashmi, Majid Kazemi, and Saeid Yaqoubi. Based on these convicts’ confessions obtained through torture, the Revolutionary Court sentenced them to death on the charge of Moharebeh [waging war against God] for drawing weapons during the protests of 16 November 2022 in Isfahan. Branch 9 of the Supreme Court of Iran upheld the decision on 9 May 2023. Judicial authorities have provided no evidence or documentation to support the claim that firearms were discovered and seized from the mentioned protesters. The Iranian people’s uprising began on 16 September 2022 following the murder of Mahsa (Jina) Amini while in custody of the Morality Police of Iran. The protests of 16 November 2022 were a continuation of this revolutionary uprising and commemorated the November 2019 protests with calls for demonstration and strike.
