- Description
Ahmad Amirabadi Farahani, a member of the board of directors of the Iranian Parliament, supported the killing, detention and torture of protesters involved in the 2022 nationwide demonstrations and called for their execution.
In the parliament’s open session on 6 November 2022, Amirabadi Farahani read out the statement of 227 MPs who had expressed their appreciation and support of the repressive forces and urged the judiciary to sentence protesters to death.
It is claimed in a statement that the ongoing protests are orchestrated by “the United States and other enemies of Iran.” The statement reads in part, “We, the representatives of this nation ask all the state officials, including the Judiciary, to deal promptly with the moharebs (enemies of God) who like ISIS terrorists attacked people’s life and property using hot and cold weapons, in a way that would serve as a good lesson. [We call upon them] to enforce the divine law of Qisas (retaliation in kind) against all the moharebs, no matter who they are, to prove to all that the life, property, security and honor of our people is an absolute red line for the Islamic establishment, and that it would show no leniency to anybody in this regard.”
The 2022 nationwide protests in Iran broke out following the murder of Mahsa Amini in the custody of the Islamic Republic’s Morality Police on 13 September 2022, and have continued in various forms in different cities for more than three months. According to reports by human rights organisations, at least 469 citizens, including 63 children and 32 women, have been killed by the law enforcement and security forces of the Islamic Republic.
