      Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili, in his role as the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, is responsible for violating the human rights of artists and athletes who supported the 2022 protests and expressed solidarity with the protesters. BBC Persian has published documents showing that in a letter signed by Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili on September 22, 2022, the names of 141 artists and athletes were sent to the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The letter requested detailed information on the financial status of these individuals in order to implement what were described as "legally anticipated restrictions." The document states that these prominent figures played a significant role in fueling the protests.
