- Description
- Vahid Hemmatnejad, in his capacity as the judge of branch 5 of Revolutionary Court of Isfahan, is responsible for issuing the death sentence for Mahmoud Mehrabi on the charge of “corruption on earth” on May 5, 2024. Mahmoud Mehrabi, a political prisoner, had been arrested three times prior to his most recent detention for exposing financial and moral corruption among members of the Mobarakeh City Council. On February 1, 2023, he was arrested following a raid by security forces on his home and was subjected to interrogation, pressure, and torture to force a confession. Hajar Mehrabi, Mahmoud’s sister, told "IranWire" that the judge informed her brother that the sentence was issued because he showed no remorse in his eyes or demeanor.
