- Haghighatkhah is responsible for issuing convictions for women not in observance of the mandatory hijab. In the case of one women protester, he sentenced her to 74 lashes on the charge of: Hurting public modesty (through Inappropriate clothing and communicating with passing cars). The 2022-2023 protests began following the killing of Mahsa (Jina) Amini on September 13, 2022, while in the custody of the Islamic Republic's Moral Security Police. Amidst the protests and afterwards, women have resisted the mandatory hijab in various ways and have suffered widespread repression, including denial of public services, education, arrest, court cases, fines, and imprisonment.
