- Description
- Yeganeh Iran-doust, in her capacity as the Director of the Women’s Ward at Evin Prison, is responsible for depriving female political prisoners of their fundamental rights, harassment and mistreatment, fabricating cases against them, and exiling them. The Women’s Ward at Evin Prison is dedicated to political and civil activists, as well as religious minorities, charged with national security-related crimes. Some of the most prominent human rights defenders, including Nargess Mohammadi, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and members of the Baha’i community, have been imprisoned there. Female prisoners have been very outspoken about the abuse they have experienced at the hands of Evin Prison authorities, including the prison’s female employees. They have frequently been punished by being deprived of their rights to weekly visitations, telephone calls, or subjected to other hardships as a result of their protests against the conditions and broader issues such as political executions.
